As the youngest graduate of his medical school class, Dr. Khan was part of the prestigious Advanced (Accelerated) Medical Scholars Program at Louisiana State University (LSU) of Shreveport and LSU School of Medicine. Through this program, Dr. Khan was able to obtain his Bachelors of Science (B.S.) and Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degrees in six years at the age of just 23. Along the way, he also earned numerous distinctions and honors, which includes maintaining the Dean’s List during undergraduate studies, being the recipient of various scholarships, and receiving distinguished honors during medical school examinations. Dr. Khan then went on to complete his internship in Internal Medicine and residency in Ophthalmology at LSU Medical Center and LSU Health Science Center in Shreveport respectively. During his training, Abdul Rasheed Khan, M.D., served as a Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at LSU Medical Center for one year. While undertaking a fellowship in Vitreo-Retinal Diseases and Surgery at Ochsner Clinic Foundation in his hometown of New Orleans, Dr. Khan cared for patients with potentially blinding eye diseases. Dr. Khan subsequently continued on at Ochsner Clinic Foundation after completing his fellowship, where he served as a Staff Physician, still concentrating on Ophthalmology and Vitreo-Retinal diseases. Concurrently, he served as a Staff Physician at Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center in Houma, Louisiana as well. While educating other physicians, fellows, residents and students from LSU and Ochsner about his area of expertise, Abdul Rasheed Khan, M.D., remained engaged in patient care. At the New Orleans teaching hospitals, Dr. Khan was involved in the diagnosis, medical and surgical treatment, and management of patients with severe eye disorders, such as macular degeneration, retinal detachment and diabetic related eye disease. When Hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana in 2005, Dr. Abdul Rasheed Khan found himself displaced for several months before joining Baton Rouge’s premiere retina practice, the Vitreo-Retinal Institute of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. For four years, Dr. Khan functioned as a Principal at the Baton Rouge organization. During his tenure, he continued to treat patients with retinal, vitreous, and macular diseases throughout Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas. His work at the Baton Rouge facility earned Dr. Khan many honors, including a role as an Ophthalmological Associate with Research to Prevent Blindness, Inc.; a listing in the 2009-2010 Edition of Cambridge Who’s Who Registry of Executives, Professionals, and Entrepreneurs as a lifetime member; and a ranking in the Vitreo-Retinal Surgery category of Consumers’ Research Council of America’s Top Physicians. Today, Abdul Rasheed Khan, M.D., works in private practice in the Chicagoland and Dallas metroplex areas. He continues to provide the best and latest treatment for those with a variety of eye disorders, including macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease. Actively involved in his career, Dr. Khan maintains membership in the American Medical Association, Dallas County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Southern Medical Association, New Orleans Academy of Ophthalmology, Louisiana State Medical Society and the East Baton Rouge Parish Medical Society.
