Clinical psychiatrist, lecturer, writer, and instructor Dr. Allen Siegel heads The Nautilos Group, a consultancy that specializes in guiding CEOs and those managing family-owned businesses through personal and interpersonal challenges that arise in upper management. Dr. Siegel aims to use contemporary psychological concepts and techniques to give his clients a set of tools and organizing principles that they cannot receive through normal business consultants.

Dr. Allen Siegel formed The Nautilos Group after a lengthy career as a psychiatrist. An alumnus of Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Siegel went on to medical school at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine after earning his Bachelor’s degree. He interned at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center and stayed on to complete his residency as well. Dr. Allen Siegel received his training in psychoanalysis at the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis, where he later served as the Director of the Distance Learning Program.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Allen Siegel served for 10 years as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Rush University Medical Center and spent an additional 10 years as an Attending Physician at Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s Institute of Psychiatry. From 1971 to 1981, Dr. Allen Siegel acted as Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine. He also served as an Attending Psychiatrist and Assistant Attending Psychiatrist at Michael Reese Hospital and worked as Medical Director for the Hospital’s Clinic for Juvenile Delinquency.

Aside from his professional responsibilities, Dr. Allen Siegel maintains a deep commitment to his community. He served as a representative of the Chicago Action for Soviet Jewry in a 1989 mission to the Soviet Union to show support for refuseniks. Dr. Siegel also participated on the Planning Committee for Holocaust Educational Foundation’s conference Lessons and Legacies: The Meaning of the Holocaust in a Changing World. In addition, he raised awareness of the Holocaust by sitting on the Professional Board of Holocaust Educational Foundation for nearly 10 years.

Dr. Allen Siegel has authored various magazine and journal articles and white papers. His book, Heinz Kohut and the Psychology of the Self, is a well-respected overview of the work of this post-Freudian psychoanalyst.
