Amber Skalski is an actress, teacher and director based in Los Angeles, CA. She received a BFA in Acting from CalArts and has studied with Byrne and Joyce Piven, The S.I.T.I. Company and Theatre Complicite’s Toby Jones.
Amber has performed with The Powerhouse Theatre, Theatre of Note, Bootleg, The El Portal, 24th St (Ghost Road Company), The Actor’s Alley, LATC, The Actor’s LAB, Highways, NY Fringe, Apple Tree Theatre and The Bailiwick Repertory of Chicago. She also performed in the new play, ONIONHEADS, at The Kennedy Center in Washington DC and was nominated for an Irene Ryan Award for her performance. Television and film credits include: Peter Engel’s, “All About US”, “Charmed”, “Lolita Crime Spree” and Cartoon Network’s “Puffi Ami Yumi”(VO).
Amber was an artist in residence with Ken Roht’s LA based, Orphean Circus at Bard College’s Summerscape in New York and performed THE ORANGE STAR DINNER SHOW. She then travelled to Guatamala with Sayda Trujillo and Annie Amberg of BIG ELEPHANT WORKS to teach physical theatre to members of Proyecto Payaso, an organization which uses clowning to educate citizens about HIV/Aids. She presented her piece, BIRDBRAIN, in a writers workshop event at BANG lead by Heather Woodbury.
Directing credits include collaborations with writer/performer, Sayda Trujillo: BANANA LEAVES at the LA Women’s Theatre Festival, DEFINITELY OOPS at the REDCAT, LEFT UP RIGHT for the NY Theatre Workshop-Back to the Root Festival in New York City and GESTOS at La Cambalacha in Guatamala. I WAS RAISED MEXICAN, Trujillo and Skalski’s latest collaboration, toured Los Angeles, San Diego, New York, and Berlin, Germany at The English Theatre. Amber also served as Movement Coordinator/Choreographer for Daniel Martinico’s upcoming film, OK GOOD and as Choreographer for visual artist, Brody Condon’s installation, LINE UP(After Trisha) at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art which was costumed by fashion designers, Rodarte. She will direct the world premiere of Cody Henderson’s WONDERLUST, at Theatre of Note in Hollywood, Fall 2011.
As a teacher, Amber works with her mentor, BJ Dodge, with the CAP program. This program was honored with an LA Ovation Award for Theatre Outreach.
