Andrew W. Oravetz, Jr. worked for more than 26 years in environmental consulting and laboratory analysis, including 23 years in solid and hazardous waste management and policy support. Beginning his environmental career with NUS Corporation by working on Superfund-financed environmental cleanup sites, Andrew W. Oravetz, Jr. pursued this same type of work at CDM and then at Versar. Andrew W. Oravetz, Jr. quickly gained recognition for his detailed and thorough analysis on environmental site cleanup projects funded by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the military, and commercial clients. Andrew W. Oravetz, Jr.’s diverse set of experience with Versar included conducting Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) facility assessments, and serving as Quality Assurance Officer for EPA contracts. Andrew W. Oravetz, Jr. also assisted in the development of an EPA handbook on rehabilitating ordnance and explosives ranges; assessing the effects of pesticides on the environment and human health; pollution prevention projects; health and public safety training; and hazardous waste monitoring through soil and water sampling. Andrew W. Oravetz, Jr. rose to the position of Senior Environmental Scientist and Policy Analyst at Versar during his many years with the company. A deeply spiritual individual, Andrew W. Oravetz, Jr. completed a degree in religion from the Trinity School for Ministry after earning his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh. Writing his thesis on the theology of the environment, Andrew W. Oravetz, Jr. worked on rehabilitating the natural environment over the years. Andrew W. Oravetz, Jr. has stayed active within the Anglican Church throughout his life, serving as lay delegate to the Anglican District of Virginia (ADV) and as a member of the ADV Standing Committee on Constitution and Canons. Andrew W. Oravetz, Jr. contributes to charitable institutions such as World Vision Inc., The American National Red Cross, and the American Cancer Society. He also volunteered for 15 years with the Boy Scouts. In his free time, Andrew W. Oravetz, Jr. enjoys reading the Bible and works by authors such as Kim Stanley Robinson and C.S. Lewis.
