28, Albuquerque, New MexicoAnyu is from the suburbs of Washington, DC, and attended the University of Chicago. During his time in college he was founder and president of the French Club and board member of The Giving Tree; he was also awarded the University of Chicago College Honor Scholarship, the Harry S Truman Scholarship for public service, and the distinction of Student Marshal. After obtaining a BA in Economics in 2006, he joined the Emerson National Hunger Fellowship program at the Congressional Hunger Center, where he spent a year engaging in community- and national-level anti-hunger initiatives and conducted in-depth research on the Food Stamp Program. Anyu was awarded the Gates Cambridge Scholarship in 2007 and studied for a year at the Center of Development Studies at the University of Cambridge before moving back to the States for law school. His master’s dissertation, “Hiding Homelessness: “Quality of Life” Laws and the Politics of Development in American Cities,” was published in the International Journal of Law in Context (Cambridge University Press) in 2009.
