A job interview is the most vital opportunity to make a good impression on a prospective employer, as it demonstrates your professionalism and ability to fit in at a workplace. As a general guideline, it is better to be overdressed at an interview than too casual, so err on the formal side with clothes and grooming.

Interview attire should be clean, pressed, and conservative. Even if you believe the company you are interviewing with maintains a casual atmosphere, as a job candidate you are under closer scrutiny than you would be as an employee.

For men, a solid-colored suit in a conservative color, paired with a white or other coordinated button-up shirt, is often the best choice. Remember the details, including a belt, tie, dark dress socks, and conservative business shoes.

Women should wear a suit with a long enough skirt to sit comfortably. In a more casual workplace, a suit skirt paired with a dress shirt or sweater may be appropriate. Wear comfortable, conservative shoes, and be prepared for the possibility that you will need to walk from place to place at the office. Keep makeup simple and clean.

Both men and women should ensure that their hair is clean and groomed. Avoid strong perfume or cologne, as your interviewer may be allergic or not enjoy the scent.
