A licensed hearing instrument specialist and audioprosthologist, Asher Elkayam serves as the founder and President of Trutone/Westminster Hearing Aid Centers in Reisterstown, Maryland. Deeply interested in communication and understanding between the hard of hearing, Asher Elkayam has devoted more than three decades to assisting the hearing impaired in addition to his work as an educator. A lifelong language enthusiast, Asher Elkayam boasts fluency in English, French, and Hebrew, and he also possesses a working knowledge of Spanish and Arabic. In the past, Asher Elkayam utilized his multi-lingual capabilities in his role as a French and Hebrew Studies Instructor, both in the United States and abroad. Prior to establishing the company in 1985, Asher Elkayam attended Townson State University, obtaining his Masters in Education in 1972. Serving as a Memory Development Instructor in continuing adult education classes in Baltimore County for more than two decades, Asher Elkayam also holds board certification from the National Institute for Hearing Instruments Studies (NIHIS), one of the foremost hearing and audiology education institutions in the country. Balancing the demands of overseeing Trutone/Westminster Hearing Aid Centers with his continuing education work, Asher Elkayam earned additional advanced certification in his field from the American Council on Audioprosthology in 1995, the same year he completed coursework at NIHIS. In addition to his work teaching an array of language and memory courses, Asher Elkayam devotes a great deal of time and energy to pursuing his own education. A member of the International Hearing Society (IHS) for 25 years, Asher Elkayam regularly attends IHS conventions in order to remain abreast of the most recent innovations in hearing aid technology. Over the course of his career as a hearing aid professional, Asher Elkayam has participated in over 100 seminars, amassing over 400 continuing education credit hours in Hearing Science. A past President of the Hearing Society of Maryland, Delaware, and Washington D.C., Asher Elkayam employed his extensive teaching and field experience to spur the organization’s growth, improving membership and advocating for expanded educational options for other Hearing Science licensees.
