An accomplished city planner, Mr. Barry Cromartie currently leverages over 20 years of professional expertise toward his role as Director of Target Area Implementation for the New Orleans Office of Recovery and Development Administration (ORDA). In this capacity, Barry Cromartie has been integral to the restoration of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Barry Cromartie channeled his considerable experience into developing a comprehensive strategy to facilitate target area implementation plans. To this end, Barry Cromartie analyzed obstacles and guided the employment of strategies that would streamline the city’s recovery process. Under Barry Cromartie’s keen management, a strategic plan was created to carry out the physical development of 117 projects and various economic development programs.

Prior to joining the ORDA team in New Orleans, Barry Cromartie served as the Director of Planning and Building for the City of American Canyon. Leading a 13-member team, Barry Cromartie oversaw a broad range of duties, including coordinating special studies and city ordinances; implementing commercial, residential, and industrial projects; liaising between interdepartmental coordination committees; creating and managing departmental budgets; and managing planning, building, and code enforcement.

Over the course of his professional career, Barry Cromartie has worked for a variety of California cities, including Richmond, Tracy, Emeryville, and Belmont. Barry Cromartie possesses extensive experience in design review, including pre-application project review, application screening and intake, determination of project completeness, project analysis, environmental assessment, report preparation, and public presentation. Barry Cromartie’s work has resulted in the successful completion of various high profile shopping centers, hotels, and offices.

Barry Cromartie matriculated at the University of California, Berkeley, from which he obtained his Master’s in City and Regional Planning. Barry Cromartie also holds joint Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science and Mass Communications which he also recived from Berkeley.

Barry Cromartie maintains membership in the American Planning Association.
