Bill Sobel is above all a connector. He has successfully brought together some of the most powerful and innovative media executives, dealmakers and entrepreneurs, facilitated multi-million dollar ventures and consulted to top media clients. Bill played a key role in the digital media conversion of AandE, handled all post-production for the groundbreaking NBC Olympics broadcast in 2004, launched Kewazinga – which brought multi-dimensional slow-motion imagery to sports TV —helped launch HBO’s first interactive program, supervised post-production for Billy Joel’s “Made in the USSR” tour and for Steven Wright’s Emmy-award winning short feature “The Appointments of Dennis Jennings,” and much much more.

As principal of SobelMedia, Bill helps startup-up companies in the media and entertainment industries find digital media solutions. His client list includes Post Perfect in New York, Crawford Communications in Atlanta and other leading media, advertising and entertainment industry clients. Sobel is also an active member of the New York Chapter of the National Television Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, a consultant to the Convergent Media Program at the New York Institute of Technology and a consultant to the Science Media Iniative under the jurisdiction of The Sloan Foundation. Bill is also founder of the New York: Media Information Exchange Group of media and financial professionals who meet monthly to explore ideas and offer wisdom on the profound changes that are forever changing the industry. He also teaches emerging technologies in media and entertainment, communications management, broadcasting and new media at Polytech University, the University of Albany’s school of management, New York University Stern School of Management and the Columbia University Graduate School of Business. In addition Mr. Sobel is the Media Advisor to the New York Board of Rabbis, United Nations University and the Business Development Institute.

Bill began his career as a page at NBC TV in New York, working his way to production, then moving to ABC, where he handled on-air promotion. In 1981, he became MTV’s first Supervisor of Videotape Operations. He lives with his wife and daughter in Old Bethpage, NY.

Overview: Founded and organized in June 2006, NY:MIEG (The New York Media Information Exchange Group) brings together media, entertainment and financial professionals who meet monthly in New York City to explore ideas and offer wisdom on the profound changes that are forever changing the industry. Its members not only stay abreast of those changes but also maintain their relevancy on crucial topics. NY:MIEG provides a forum for continuing education for all professionals who work with media.
