How to Impress Human Resources Representatives by Burgess Stockwell , Burgess Stockwell Blog on Wordpress
May, 2011
In my career as an HR executive, I have made it a priority to aid in developing the interaction between employees and HR representatives. While there are attributes an employee should expect from HR, there are qualities HR reps look for in their employees as well.
1. Take Pride in Your Appearance Like it or not, books are judged by their covers. Take time to make yourself presentable; wear tidy, work-appropriate clothing when you meet with HR in order to make a good impression.
2. Speak Kindly About Your Peers Everyone in every industry must interact with someone they do not care for. That does not mean employees should gripe about their supervisors or fellow colleagues to human resources. Speaking kindly and respectfully about other employees facilitates a smooth work environment for everybody.
3. Be Respectful Toward HR Representatives During most job interviews, a human resources representative will talk to employees about specifics unrelated to the position for which the candidate is applying. Do not make the mistake of believing that these encounters are less important than interactions with prospective supervisors or peers. Oftentimes the colleagues of these representatives hold their opinions in high regard, so strive to make as good an impression with them as possible.
