Archiving and Sharing the Music of the Merasi

Caitlin Whelan is an anthropology concentrator at Brown University. She has spent the past three years working with the Merasi, a community of lower caste musicians in northwestern India, on social change initiatives. In 2006, she received a Royce Fellowship to record, edit, and organize the first archive of Merasi music. Presently, she is designing a micro school project in conjunction with the Merasi that she intends to implement in the summer of 2007.
