An Interview with Carter Pate: Part 2 , Carter Pate's Blog on Bigsight
October, 2011
Interviewer: Thank you for joining us today, Mr. Pate. While acting as the Finance Director for William Hudson Chemical Trading, you witnessed firsthand the damage that can occur when a company fails to thoroughly vet the financial practices of its business partners. Can you tell us a bit about corporate fraud as it applies to your experience at William Hudson Chemical Trading?
Carter Pate: Certainly. As a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), I have often been called upon to uncover, assess, and put an end to inappropriate and illegal activities, especially those tied to major financial transactions between collaborating enterprises. Once an allegation of fraud comes to light, a CFE such as myself typically begins stabilizing the situation via detailed gathering and examination of pertinent evidence. Once a CFE has acquired enough information to support subsequent prosecutorial undertakings, he or she will likely be asked to undertake an internal audit, testify as an expert witness in legal proceedings, or simply compose a statement that a company can use to bolster its case against the individuals who participated in illicit dealings.
Interviewer: You co-founded a Dallas, Texas-bases management consultancy firm after leaving your post at William Hudson Chemical Trading. What led you pursue this entrepreneurial endeavor?
Carter Pate: With the formation of Pate, Winters & Stone, I recognized an opportunity to leverage my skills and knowledge in an optimal way. Although I certainly enjoyed the time I spent at William Hudson Chemical Trading, I was ready to create new challenges for myself in the professional arena. As Pate, Winters & Stone grew, numerous companies approached us to re-structure their financial departments and implement policies beneficial to both investors and the organizations themselves. I view my work with Sun Coast Industries as a good example of the aforementioned services that Pate, Winters & Stone made available to its clientele.
