Champion Learning Center: Highest quality of tutoring, Champion Learning Center
July, 2010
Champion Learning Center works with students from kindergarten through high school, providing the highest quality of tutoring services through dedicated professionals who are experienced in working with children and inspiring in them a drive for success. Focusing on reading, math, writing, study skills, SAT and ISEE preparation, and other academic subjects, Champion Learning Center tutors develop individualized plans for their students and consistently assess progress, rethinking the curriculum to meet expectations.
No two students learn in precisely the same way and Champion Learner Center tutors are trained to diagnose learning styles based on each student’s academic strengths and weaknesses and his or her criticism of school teachers. Before a tutee receives any instruction from our tutors, he or she takes a sort of pre-test that helps our professionals develop tutoring plans, in addition to parental concerns and other observations of each specific situation.
All of our teachers at the Champion Learning Center are extensively trained and certified. Our strict hiring criteria ensure that each tutor is friendly, understanding, enthusiastic, energetic, and excited about working with children. Tutors continually provide feedback both to pupils and parents, and regular progress reports and conferences ensure that parents are involved in their child’s education every step of the way.
The Champion Learning Center’s staff makes itself readily available to parents and is prepared to address any concerns in a prompt and efficient manner. We strive to become personally acquainted with each client and thereby provide the highest degree of service to both our tutees and their parents. We guarantee satisfaction with all of our programs and are prepared to go above and beyond other tutoring companies in order to make our clients happy.

New York City's Specialized High Schools, Champion Learning Center
July, 2011
by Abraham Sultan
I often tutor students hoping to gain entry to New York City’s specialized high schools, admission to which is determined by performance on the Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT).
New York City’s specialized high schools offer a truly unique system of public magnet schools, attracting the best and brightest young minds and training them to reach their fullest potentials. With an emphasis on mathematics and science, eight specialized high schools rely on the SHSAT for determining admissions. The ninth school, LaGuardia Arts, admits students based on audition rather than on standardized examination.
The oldest of the New York City specialized schools, Stuyvesant High School, was founded in 1904 as a vocational training school for boys. As its reputation for superior achievement in math and science continued to build, the school began restricting enrollment in 1919. Stuyvesant led the formation of the specialized high school system in 1934, implementing a series of entrance examinations. When this system was expanded to include the newly founded Bronx High School of Science and Brooklyn Technical High School, the current configuration of specialized schools was born.
Often threatened by factions within the New York City government and school system, the status of these specialized schools was formalized and protected in 1972 through the Hecht-Calandra Act of the New York State Legislature. This law called for a uniform entrance examination to be administered by all the schools in the system (with the exception of LaGuardia Arts), in accordance with the exam previously administered by the New York City Board of Education.
The newest additions to New York City’s specialized high schools are the High School for Math, Science & Engineering at City College and the Queens High School for the Sciences at York College, both founded in 2002. The High School of American Studies at Lehman College is unique in its emphasis on AP-level U.S. History.
I feel privileged to tutor students who will develop into local and national leaders through immersion in the strong foundational learning offered at these remarkable institutions in New York City.
