During a 40-year career in business, Charles L. Starr established a proven record of success across a number of industries. After graduating with honors from Pelham Memorial High School in New York in 1950, Charles L. Starr served in Korea for four years as an electronics specialist in the United States Air Force. In 1954, Charles L. Starr returned to the United States and enrolled at Brown University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business with honors in 1958. Following graduation, Charles L. Starr moved to New York City to begin his professional career in sales at Johnson & Johnson. With his experience in selling consumer goods, Charles L. Starr moved to Speedway, Indiana in 1961 to become Sales Manager at Helene Curtis Industries, Inc., supervising sales in the central region of the United States for the personal care products company. In 1964, Charles L. Starr joined NestlĂ© S.A., one of the largest food companies in the world, in White Plains, New York. As a marketing manager, Charles L. Starr oversaw all aspects of marketing NestlĂ©’s confectionary brands, including the successful 1966 launch of the $100,000 Bar, later renamed the 100 Grand Bar in the 1980s. In 1967, Charles L. Starr became Vice President of Marketing at H. P. Hood & Sons, a New England dairy company founded in 1846. During his 20-year tenure at what is now HP Hood LLC, Charles L. Starr was instrumental in bringing new products to the New England market, including fruit and yogurt combination products as well as one- and two-percent milk products. In 1987, Charles L. Starr left HP Hood to spearhead two new entrepreneurial ventures. As President of USA Blinds Factory and USA Video Entertainment, Inc., Charles L. Starr built both from start-ups to successful companies, eventually selling USA Video Entertainment, Inc. to a national firm.
