The team from Vanderbilt University faced squads from some of the best MBA programs in the United States, responding to a case study involving a private equity portfolio company in the oilfield services/technology sector and the qualitative and quantitative aspects of the situation, including costs & benefits and growth. A panel of 3 investment bankers judged their work, which consisted of 2 valuation models and a 25-slide PowerPoint presentation relevant to the issues raised. Chip Bierbaum and the team from Vanderbilt University took second place; they received a trophy and an invitation for Owen students to return to the competition in 2010. In the summer of 2009 he worked as a summer associate for New Capital Partners, performing financial modeling and on site due diligence for small cap growth stage health care technology companies. He continued his interest in health care by interning for Faultline Ventures, while finishing his MBA degree. Again he worked on deal sourcing, financial modeling and due diligence. Currently Chip is the owner of MediSights, which provides bespoke and subscription research, valuation, due diligence and financial modeling services to private equity, venture capital and investment banking clients. Medi-Sights is able to draw upon the knowledge of thought leaders, entrepreneurs and operating professionals in order to enhance the firm’s proprietary research and analytic capabilites and provide clients with unique, differentiated insights into the healthcare services industry.
