Chris Diodato is the Director of Environmental Health and Safety at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York City. In this highly complex and detail-oriented role, Chris Diodato is responsible for overseeing and developing all EH&S safety programs, such as Fire and Life safety, on this urban campus. Chris Diodato maintains extremely strict safety standards in order to assure that the physical environment on the campus is optimally safe for all. Chris Diodato coordinates the safety programs of and specific safety issues regarding all departments on the Teachers College campus, including all academic departments, capitol projects, facilities, public safety, and residential services. Responsible for ensuring that all new and ongoing projects on campus comply with appropriate regulations, Chris Diodato is deeply familiar with all federal and state rules and regulations, including those of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), as well as the New York State building code. Chris Diodato manages all aspects of campus fire suppression and fire alarm systems, including sprinklers, generators, and myriad other emergency equipment, and he administers and supervises all required inspections and orders repairs when needed. Chris Diodato develops and implements emergency preparedness plans, such as campus evacuation drills. In addition, Chris Diodato develops OSHA training materials that support environmental health and safety programs on campus, and he provides expert technical assistance to all campus projects to ensure safety measures are successfully implemented. In addition, Chris Diodato oversees the investigation of campus accidents and injuries in order to identify and eliminate their root causes. Chris Diodato supervises testing for air and water quality, as well as for hazardous materials, such as lead or asbestos. In addition, Chris Diodato orders and oversees swift and appropriate action for the remediation of problematic conditions. Chris Diodato maintains excellent working relationships with the entire college community, ensuring that he can accomplish his tasks quickly and efficiently. Chris Diodato pursued coursework at the Environmental Health and Safety Program of the University of Connecticut, and he has received extensive, high-level subsequent training. Chris Diodato is licensed as a fire official and fire inspector, and he is certified by the National Safety Council in Advanced Safety management. A long and varied career in senior-level health and safety supervisory positions has prepared Chris Diodato to excel in his current role.
