Dr. Clifford R. Dunning brings over 30 years of experience to his position as the Director of Northern Virginia Professional Counseling Centers, P.C. In 1978, Clifford R. Dunning established the first center in Falls Church, Virginia, and over the past three decades has opened two new centers in the Washington, D.C. metro area. As Director of the centers, Clifford R. Dunning oversees a staff of licensed clinicians and training interns working toward licensure. Serving his practice as a Clinical Psychotherapist, Clifford R. Dunning specializes in marriage and family therapy, dysfunctional family relations, post traumatic stress disorder, conflict resolution, and stress reduction. Treating individuals, couples, families, and groups, Clifford R. Dunning works closely with all patients to assess the initial risk and develop a proper diagnosis before personalizing treatment plans that address each patients’ unique needs. Clifford R. Dunning is also an expert in substance abuse and evaluates each patient’s potential for drug and alcohol use, taking steps to either quell or prevent abuse. During his tenure at Northern Virginia Professional Counseling Centers, Clifford R. Dunning has established a number of support and therapy groups including couples communication seminars, male sexual abuse survivor support, and a group for ADHD children and their parents. A graduate of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Clifford R. Dunning holds a Master of Arts in Personnel Administration from George Washington University and a Doctor of Philosophy in Human Behavior from United States International University. Clifford R. Dunning is a licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, a licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist, a certified clinical psychologist by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, a certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor, and a certified Clinical Hypnotherapist. Experienced in teaching both graduate and undergraduate students, Clifford R. Dunning is a certified Fellow in Sex Counseling by the American University in Washington, D.C.
