Actors Models and Talent for Christ
Overview
The Christ-based talent preparation group Actors, Models & Talent for Christ (AMTC, Inc.) began in 1982 as the Millie Lewis Convention, honoring graduates of the Millie Lewis Modeling Schools and Talent Agencies. Millie Lewis, the inspiration behind Actors, Models & Talent for Christ, grew up in Greenville, South Carolina, in the 1930s. After starting a modeling career in New York City with the cosmetics company DuBarry USA, Lewis returned to South Carolina where she established modeling and finishing schools throughout the region. During this period, she gave birth to her daughter, Carey, who currently heads Actors, Models & Talent for Christ. An eventual inductee into the International Models Hall of Fame, Lewis performed on television and radio, joined the New York Fashion Group, spoke at local colleges, and conducted desegregated fashion shows.
In the 1980s, Millie Lewis, along with Carey, hosted the first Millie Lewis Convention at a Sheraton Hotel in Charleston. This AMTC precursor featured 150 performers and 15 agents from New York. Due to the success of these events, the Millie Lewis Convention grew to become the Mid-South Models Convention five years later. In 1992, the group adopted the name AMTC, which then stood for Actors, Models, and Talent Competition.
Carey Lewis, the firm’s Chief Executive Officer, became a Christian 14 years later and changed the organization’s name to Actors, Models & Talent for Christ. She currently holds the title of Chief Serving Officer for the company. Today, AMTC, a three-generation family business, holds auditions and provides training to people of all ages and religions while promoting the positive teachings and values of Christ.
Models, writers, singers, comedians, and actors who want to join Actors, Models & Talent for Christ must first participate in an audition. If successful, the performer can then enroll in its The Bridge program, which will teach them about style, marketing, and other crucial elements of the entertainment business. The process concludes at Actors, Models & Talent for Christ’s SHINE, where students can meet between 50 and 100 industry professionals at a 6-day event held twice a year.
