Advanced Polymer Solutions
Overview
Advanced Polymer Solutions, based in Port Washington, New York, has developed an innovative, patented solution to binding materials, relying upon the principle of chemical grafting. The chemists at Advanced Polymer Solutions create tailor-made formulations for client companies or government agencies, each designed to achieve specific objectives while outlasting and outperforming conventional solutions.
The mechanism of Advanced Polymer Solutions’ chemical grafting relies on the removal of active hydrogen atoms from substrate materials (the target) and the stimulation of polymer chain growth at the site of the removed atom. For instance, a molecule with multiple hydrogen atoms could be coaxed to give up one of those atoms and bond it with a free carbon group at the end of a specially designed molecule. The advantage of this approach is that it creates covalent bonds, one of the strongest chemical bonds found in nature.
Advanced Polymer Solutions creates formulations appropriate for textiles, rubber, metal, plastics, ceramics, cellulose, and biopolymers, among others. For metals, Advanced Polymer Solutions develops anti-corrosion coatings, solutions to prevent wear and abrasion, and approaches to increase conductivity or insulation. Textiles treated via Advanced Polymer Solutions’ processes may be modified to repel water, resist ultraviolet radiation, kill bacteria, or resist wrinkles. Ceramics may be modified to make them easier to print on, to resist breaking or scratching, or to introduce electrical conductivity or water resistance.
Most of the agents created by Advanced Polymer Solutions consist of adhesives, additives, or coatings. Designed with safety in mind, all of the company’s products meet guidelines set by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Occupational Safety & Health Administration. If required, they also meet U.S. Food and Drug Administration standards. All manufacturing activities are supervised by experts with at least a Ph.D. in Chemistry.
