Canal
Radiology Associates, a New York radiology imaging outpatient center, is
accredited American College of Radiology, and the FDA for mammography services.
Canal Radiology provides a wide array of imaging solutions for patients,
including MRIs, digital mammography, and multislice CT scans as well as breast,
abdominal, and thyroid ultrasounds. Charles M. Piccinnini, an alumnus of the
City University of New York, has served as CEO since 1998. Canal Radiology’s
professional radiology staff are board-certified and fellowship trained
radiologists, and pathologists offering some of the most advanced imaging
services to their patients.
One of Canal Radiology’s services is the fine
needle aspiration of the thyroid, and ultrasound-guided core biopsy of the
breast in an outpatient setting. These services provide patients direct access
to biopsies, fine needle aspirations and the overview and supervision of a
Cytopathologist on site to evaluate the quality of samples for thyroid FNA.
Patients can be confident that procedures are performed at Canal Radiology with
excellent protocols, and experienced physician staff to obtain quality
diagnostic results. Canal Radiology provides multislice CT - computed
tomography at 16-images per second to provide patients high speed scanning and
accurate results for our patients. In contrast to the slow, often
uncomfortable, and potentially health-endangering traditional X-ray, the CT
scan is a modern revolution. When a Canal Radiology technician takes a series
of high-resolution images around the axis of the body, the CT scan results in a
three-dimensional model in real time. Patients experience shorter exam times,
single breath hold scanning, and reduced x ray exposure for head/neck,
abdominal, and pelvic CT exams.
Canal Radiology is proud to be part of the
Image Gently program to reduce radiation exposure to our CT patients. At Canal
Radiology, a CT scan takes only a few seconds and can be done in comfort. In
addition, radiologists professionals can analyze the information at immediately
with 3D reconstructions available immediately. The procedure uses significantly
less radiation than a traditional X-ray while providing better results.
Another
new advanced imaging service at Canal Radiology is the Espree 1.5 T High Field
Open MRI system, a new state of the art technology from Siemens that takes the
MRI procedure to a whole new level. Rather than using contrast material in the
MRI scans, which used to be necessary to achieve optimal results, the new MRI machine
at Canal Radiology uses Fresh Blood Imaging (FBI), which not only allows images
to be take at a much high resolution so that smaller blood vessels can be
studied, but also allows arteries and veins to be imaged simultaneously yet
separately. This important advance allows conditions that affect both parts of
the circulatory system to be more effectively analyzed. Canal Radiology affers
other advanced imaging techniques that are optominized to the population of New
York City offering services with language competency in English, Chinese,
Spanish.
