Families seeking a Christ-centered,
vibrant worship experience east of Seattle may want to spend a Sunday at Christ
Church Kirkland in Washington. The church began almost four decades ago as a
small, home-based worship community. Under the leadership of Pastor Norm Willis
and his wife, the church has expanded into an energetic Christian community
complete with youth programs, an academy, an Associate’s degree program, publishing
house, and foreign medical missions. Members of Christ Church Kirkland
recognize God as a Father and strive to return to a pure, biblically based form
of Christianity.
Christ Church Kirkland has held
services in the old Spectra Lux building since 1991. Currently, the church
offers both Saturday night and Sunday morning services in order to accommodate
the large number of members. The first Sunday of each month also includes the
Champions group for children in the first through sixth grades. Champions is
limited to once a month so that families can worship together most of the time.
Members of Christ Church Kirkland also meet on Thursday nights for small,
home-based study meetings. A teen ministry consisting of youth from the 7th to
12th grades meets on Wednesday evenings. As a result, the youth are free to
worship with their families. In addition, there are other opportunities
throughout the year for families to share fun and faith with other members of
the church.
Moreover, Christ Church Academy provides
students in the 1st through 12th grades with a Christian education in the
classical tradition. In 2000, the school organized a co-op in order to allow
parents to blend their talents in order to provide the children of the
community with the best education possible. The curriculum uses the traditional
division of grammar, logic, and rhetoric in order to educate students who value
their relationship with Christ. Christ Church Kirkland also sponsors the School
of the Prophetic Arts, an accredited two-year program in which students can
earn an Associate degree in the Prophetic Arts. As they study music, dance,
studio arts, and creative writing, members aim to recreate the Kingdom of God
on Earth through their artistic efforts.
Christ Church Kirkland continues to
expand and constantly add new ministries, educational opportunities, and
activities. The vibrant worship services fill members with a love of God and a
zeal to spread the faith throughout the world. As a growing community, the
church welcomes new members.
