El Dorado Furniture
Overview
El
Dorado Furniture has provided quality furniture to South Florida
residents for more than 40 years. Founded by Manuel Capó in 1967, El
Dorado Furniture was established in the long tradition of building and
selling furniture in the Capó family. In the 1920s, Manuel Capó’s
father, Simon Capó, began a chain of furniture stores in the Cuban
province of Pinar del Río and built Casa Capó into one of the biggest
furniture enterprises in the nation. After the Castro regime confiscated
all private property, including Casa Capó, Manuel Capó fled Cuba with
two of his sons in a small sailboat named the “El Dorado.” The first El
Dorado Furniture location, in Miami’s Little Havana, opened only seven
months after they arrived in the United States as political refugees.
The entire family was reunited in 1979, when Manuel Capó’s eldest son
was released after years as a political prisoner in Cuba. Still
family-owned and run, El Dorado Furniture operates 11 showrooms and 2
outlet centers in South Florida under the direction of company president
Luis Capó, who opened the first El Dorado Furniture store with his
father in 1967. With services that include international delivery, White
Glove in-home delivery, complimentary home decorating consultations
with El Dorado Furniture design experts, and the innovative online Room
Planner, El Dorado Furniture works to uphold the ideals and values of
Manuel Capó. Committed to serving the community that supported its
humble beginnings, El Dorado Furniture contributes widely to local
causes including Miami Children’s Hospital, Amigos for Kids, Habitat for
Humanity, and the League Against Cancer, Inc. In 2007, El Dorado
Furniture celebrated its 40th anniversary by partnering with Neighbors 4
Neighbors to donate furniture to 40 needy families.
