Fertile LTD has catered to the gardening needs
of homeowners, contractors, and botanical enthusiasts throughout Chicago. After
two name changes and a recent remodeling, Fertile LTD returned to business in
April 2011 with a larger, improved interior retail area. With a wide selection
of annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees, Fertile LTD’s supply comes from all
across America, with some plants being native to the Midwestern states. In
addition, Fertile LTD stocks containers, pottery, lanterns, and other garden
accessories. Product brands include Drumm, Crescent, Gold Leaf Gardening
Gloves, Packing Pearls, and Border Concepts, Inc. Besides retailing plants and
garden elements, Fertile LTD designs, builds, and maintains landscapes.
Customers can also choose pre-potted container services and the company’s
floral designers will assist with the planting process. Between April and May
2011, the company took part in a design event hosted by the Infant Welfare
Society of Chicago (IWS). With different design companies invited to decorate
the rooms and gardens in the organization’s showcase house, visitors made
donations to view the spaces, supporting the IWS and the participants at the
same time. For Fertile LTD’s garden, the company created a cozy area with
colorful plants in a variety of containers. Open seven days a week, Fertile LTD
Garden and Design Center can be found at 1646 West Diversey Parkway in
Lakeview. Previously, a factory stood on the land, which has been family owned
for more than 90 years. Fertile LTD now occupies the property’s eight city
lots.
