Genesee Valley Chrysler Dodge Jeep
Overview
The
history of Genesee Valley Chrysler Dodge Jeep began with founder Dom
Genova’s fascination with automobiles, and after graduating with a MBA
in Marketing from Long Island University, he began as a management
trainee with Chrysler in 1977. Gradually he worked his way up in the
organization and became a district manager for Chrysler in the New York
City area. Dom Genova spent most of the 80s and early 90s in various
management positions until 1993 when he realized there was a better way
to do business, rather than operating as a “typical car dealer” with all
of the nonsense that includes, and decided to found Genesee Valley
Chrysler Dodge Jeep. After consulting with family and negotiating a loan
from Chrysler, Dom Genova opened Genesee Valley Chrysler Dodge Jeep in
Avon, New York. Initial projections indicated that the business would
sell about 250 cars each year. However, Genesee Valley Chrysler Dodge
Jeep grew and thrived due to its location with little competition near
an urban area. Additionally, Dom Genova insisted that Genesee Valley
Chrysler Dodge Jeep adopt “no nonsense” sales philosophy. This meant
that from the business’ sales personnel would not earn commissions on
individual sales. Genesee Valley Chrysler Dodge Jeep does not utilize a
finance manager, often found at other car dealerships, who tries to get
customers to buy additional, unnecessary “aftersell” items. This helps
Genesee Valley Chrysler Dodge Jeep eliminate the often adversarial
relationship that develops when customers shop for a new car. The
company’s innovative sales process combined with its convenient location
close to Rochester, New York, have contributed greatly to its continued
success. Dom Genova employed these practices when he opened a new Ford
dealership, Genesee Valley Ford, in 2005.
