Overview
Established in 1895, Granis Jewellers is an independent full service jeweller located in the theatre district, in the heart of Canada’s Victorian oil town called Petrolia. We are based in a beautifully restored heritage building originally the town’s “Oddfellows Hall” which was built in 1880 for the princely sum of $65,000. We’ve restored this gem of a property to its original grandeur and the romantic Victorian atmosphere is the perfect setting to showcase our beautiful jewellery and numerous services.
We feature a wonderful collection of fine and custom made jewellery, including many styles and products that are exclusive to us. We import our diamonds, gemstones and much of our jewellery directly so our selection is varied and our prices are exceptional.
We are members of the Canadian Jewellers Association, the Independent Jewellers Organization, the Sarnia Chamber of Commerce and the elite American Gem Society.

Among our many services, we have one of only 13 accredited gem laboratories in Canada, staffed by gemmologists. We have a computerized custom design centre featuring our in house designer and creative director. We also have a gold and watch shop which does repairs and restorations, many done while you wait!

Design Studio
Our design studio is under the direction of our head designer and creative director, Maureen Grandis. Maureen is also a certified gemmologist. She is responsible for the unique look and feel of our custom made Grandis jewellery. We feature many unique designs in our showcases, any of which can be changed or modified to your wishes.
If you sit down with us for a consultation, our designers can help you create a stunning, one of a kind masterpiece commissioned specially for you.
Watch your new design come to life right before your eyes with the use of our gemvision computerized design system. We remount and redesign old pieces or modify existing pieces to suit your lifestyle and personality. Since custom design is such a big part of our business, we are able to offer pricing for this service that is far less than our competitors.
The Grandis Watch And Gold Shop
We do repairs and restorations to most watches and jewellery on the premises. Many minor repairs can be done while you wait! It is not uncommon for a client to pick out a diamond and a mounting. Then, while they wait the stone can be set, the ring sized and the insurance appraisal generated. One of our most popular services is our white gold refinishing. Many of today’s white gold alloys tend to take on a yellowish hue after being worn awhile. The Grandis shop can restore it to factory condition in a matter of minutes!
Watch repairs are also one of our specialties. We are the 3rd generation of craftsmen to offer this service and feature 2 classically trained watchmakers on site.
Gem Laboratory
We are proud to be one of only 13 American Gem Society Certified Gem Laboratories in Canada and have a staff of certified diamond graders and graduate gemmologists on site. Our head gemmologist, Reginald Grandis is one of only 12 certified gemmologist appraisers in Canada. Our appraisals are recognized worldwide and can be done while you watch.
As an AGS lab we are required to maintain state of the art equipment, we are subject to inspections and are required to write a yearly recertification exam.
We also do diamond grading featuring Sarin Technology where the cut grade of a diamond can be determined by computer analysis using lasers to “read” the diamond. The cut grade of a diamond can make the price vary by as much as 30% and it is one of the “grey areas” of diamond grading that can be used by less scrupulous members of the business. Sarin technology removes all of the guess work.
The Grandis Estate Department
Our estate department buys and sells used jewellery and estates. We also accept a limited number of consignment pieces. Once a year, we feature an antique and estate jewellery sale where you are invited to consign an item for a one week sale period. If this option is of interest to you, contact us for details.
Antwerp Diamond Broker Program
At least once a year, we travel to the diamond capital of the world, Antwerp, Belgium to buy diamonds directly from the cutters. If you are looking for a special diamond, we will act as your broker to shop this extensive market and handpick the diamond for you. Over the years, we’ve helped many clients to get amazing diamonds at substantial savings.
