Professor at Rutgers, The State University of New JerseyNew JerseyDarius Echeverria has devoted his career to the study and teaching of history as it relates to the Latino culture, and he currently contributes his expertise to Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, where he has served in the departments of History and Latino and Hispanic Caribbean Studies since the mid-2000s. Darius Echeverria also acts as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Pennsylvania’s Swarthmore College, where he instructs students in the U.S. Latino/a experience. In addition, since 2008, he has assumed the role of Visiting Scholar at Montclair State University in New Jersey, where he both teaches and sits on the advisory board of the Latin American and Latino Studies Program. An alumnus of Rutgers, Darius Echeverria earned his Bachelor of Arts in History there, graduating magna cum laude. His next educational pursuit took him to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s Temple University, where he earned his Master’s degree and Ph.D. in History. While he attended Temple University, Darius Echeverria sat on the Office of Judicial Affairs University Disciplinary Committee, where he reviewed student and faculty conduct issues and gained extensive education in ethical matters. Prior to serving as a Professor, Darius Echeverria gained professional experience through serving in a number of government positions, with responsibilities including ensuring that state programs complied with existing laws, creating scholarship programs, issuing briefs, and formulating legislative proposals. He has served in positions in the New Jersey Office of the Governor, the White House, and State of New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, as well as various higher education institutions. In addition to maintaining his busy professional schedule, Darius Echeverria also gives back to the community. He has participated in the Center for Talented Youth, an organization that offers resources for talented pre-college students. Darius Echeverria has taken part in a host of student development and leadership training conferences and helped people vote as a volunteer for Camden County. He has also participated in the Latin American Student Organization, the Citizenship and Service Education program (CASE), and the Casa de las Cultura Ecuatoriana. Darius Echeverria holds membership in the Camden County College Public Speaking Organization and acts as Chairperson for the Rutgers Student Activities Board. |
