Darius Sivin - International Representative at International Union, UAWTakoma Park, MarylandDr. Darius Sivin, an expert in the field of occupational health and safety, works for the International Union, UAW. His knowledge, experience, and skill in industrial hygiene, ergonomics, and epidemiology allow him to excel in his role with the organization. In addition to investigating chemical exposures, injury hazards, and infectious disease in the workplace, Dr. Sivin has reviewed proposals and reports for health and safety research supervised by the UAW in conjunction with Ford Motor Company, General Motors Company, and Chrysler Group LLC. He has appeared before committees of the U.S. Congress three times to testify on the security of chemical facilities. Dr. Sivin has represented the UAW on the UAW-Chrysler National Joint Committee for Health and Safety. He has also played crucial roles during the negotiation of health and safety contract language with Ford and Chrysler. Dr. Sivin served as a subgroup chair for the Chemical Emergencies Workgroup of the National Conversation on Public Health and Chemical Exposures. Prior to his position with the UAW, Dr. Sivin was a Health Scientist with the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and a Research Analyst with the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries, which operates the state’s OSHA program. Sivin received his undergraduate education at the University of Chicago, where he received his Bachelor of Arts with honors. He later earned his Master of Environmental Studies in 1994 at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, and his Ph.D. in 2002 from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
