Pharmacist David Katsules has devoted his career to public service. After graduating from Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy, David Katsules joined the United States Navy as a Staff Pharmacist in San Diego, California. Delivering inpatient and outpatient pharmaceutical services to patients of the Navy’s largest hospital, David Katsules oversaw 18 pharmacy technicians and 8 pharmacists in duties of filling and distributing thousands of prescriptions. David Katsules prepared intravenous medications for chemotherapy and other procedures as an IV room Pharmacist and monitored the accuracy of the dosage and delivery of medications as a Satellite Pharmacist. Completing 3 years of service in San Diego, David Katsules transferred to Bremerton, Washington, where he acted as an Assistant Pharmacy Director at a smaller hospital with 3 pharmacists and 12 technicians under his supervision. David Katsules aided the Pharmacy Director in managing prescription dispensing and pharmaceutical counseling. He also participated in a rotating after-hours shift when necessary. Deftly executing his duties, David Katsules earned an Achievement Medal from the United States Navy and Marine Corps. During a two-year tour in Bremerton, Washington, David Katsules was asked to fill an open position as Pharmacy Director of an ambulatory care clinic in Iwakuni, Japan. In his new position, David Katsules presided over the pharmacy, laboratory, psychology, physical therapy, and radiology departments. With the aid of two Navy pharmacy technicians, David Katsules filled prescriptions and kept watch over patient counseling, error reporting, tracking of medication, and monitoring of adverse drug reactions, among many other general pharmaceutical processes. Upon completing his service abroad, David Katsules returned to the United States and accepted a position with the Federal Bureau of Prisons as a Chief Pharmacist of a medium-security prison on Terminal Island in southern California. David Katsules provided inmates with outpatient services and aided physicians and nurses when medical emergencies arose. Subsequently relocating to Las Vegas, Nevada, David Katsules acted as Chief Pharmacist for a federal prison located in North Las Vegas and earned promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. From Nevada, David Katsules moved to Arizona, where he was appointed Assistant Pharmacy Director of a hospital of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The PHS Commissioned Corps later transferred David Katsules to Peach Springs, Arizona, where he presided as Supervisory Pharmacist for a rural health service clinic for regional Native Americans. Today, David Katsules holds the same position at a hospital in Parker, Arizona.
