American Cancer Society
Society I am a proud and dedicated supporter of the American Cancer Society (ACS). Not only do I make monetary contributions, but I also participate in and publicize its promotional and educational events. My father was a victim of cancer. He died of lung cancer when I was 18 years old and I feel obligated to carry on his battle with the vicious disease in every way I know how. The ACS promotes research, education, advocacy, and service to reduce and eliminate cancer. The ACS does this by providing grants to research endeavors, issuing public health advertising campaigns, and coordinating events such as the Relay For Life and the Great American Smokeout. The ACS raises money in several ways. It operates a chain of thrift stores. It also endorses a 4,000-mile bike ride from Baltimore to San Francisco, known as the Hopkins 4k for Cancer. Participating in the ACS gives me a sense of community. It gives me the opportunity to meet people who have gone through similar fights with cancer and the loss of their loved ones. I am happy to be able to share my experience with others and provide meaningful support.
