Championing progressive change in Rhode Island

32, Providence, Rhode Island

Rhode Island State Representative David Segal is that rare breed: an activist-politician fighting for reform on both a grassroots and policy level. In 2002, Segal was elected to the Providence City Council—the youngest person ever elected to his position. Since then, he has worked extensively to build community partnerships as City Council Minority Leader to promote issues from green energy and afforable housing to civil liberties and civil rights.

In 2006, Segal was elected to his current position as State Representative (District 2), from which he continues to actively push for progressive reform.

Segal holds a BA in math from Columbia University, where he graduated magna cum laude. In the past, Segal has interned and worked for ABC World News and Nightline, PBS, the Capitol Hill newspaper “The Hill,” and the Columbia Daily Spectator. He is a regular contributor to RIFuture.org, Rhode Island’s most widely read progressive blog.
