Deborah “Debbie” Yow is the Director of Athletics at the University of Maryland. Now in the 16th year of her tenure, Debbie Yow has guided the Terrapins to 18 national championships and a ranking in the top 7% of all NCAA Division I institutions. As a result, Debbie Yow has won accolades from Street and Smith’s SportsBusiness Journal, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and the United States Sports Academy. An insightful and determined administrator, Debbie Yow has reduced Maryland Athletics’ debt from $51 million to $7.6 million and increased private gifts by more than 350% and corporate sponsorship by more than 300%. Debbie Yow has prioritized the opening of new and improved facilities for the University of Maryland Athletics, including the 18,000-seat Comcast Center. A 2003 honoree for Women in Sports and Events’ Women of the Year, Debbie Yow remains a role model for women in her industry and stresses excellence, teamwork, and accountability in all her endeavors. Debbie Yow has spoken at Harvard University Law School and was selected to serve on the U.S. Department of Education’s Commission on Opportunities in Athletics to review the status of Federal Title IX regulations. Debbie Yow has shared her expertise in several forums, including the U.S. Department of Education’s Commission on Opportunities in Athletics, and chaired the Atlantic Coast Conference on Television.
