Serviceman, businessman, and law expert Don Bernard has achieved an admirable amount of success throughout his career. Graduating in 1954 with a Bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin, Don Bernard also became a Commissioned Ensign in the United States Navy. While enrolled in the Navy, Don Bernard continued studying at The University of Texas and earned a Juris Doctor at the university’s School of Law in 1958. Passing the Texas Bar Examination the same year, Don Bernard next began working as a Briefing Attorney for The Supreme Court of Texas in Austin.

In 1959, Don Bernard was certified by the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces and the Supreme Court of the United States, and he also worked as the Assistant Attorney General for the State of Texas. With all of his education and experience supporting him, Donald R. Bernard opened his own law firm, Bernard & Bernard, in 1960. In addition to studying for his Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from The University of Texas at Austin School of Law, Don Bernard sat on the Board of Directors of the National Kidney Foundation from 1960 to 1963. After graduating with his LL.M. in 1964, Donald Ray Bernard focused on his naval and law responsibilities before becoming a faculty member of Southwestern School of Real Estate in 1968.

Throughout the 1970s, Donald Bernard supplemented his professional work as an Air Show Pilot for the Confederate Air Force. From 1972 to 1976, Don Bernard sat as the Chairman of the Board of Adjustment for Hedwig Village in Houston. Retiring from the Navy as a Commander in 1975, Don Bernard also ended his tenure with the Southwestern School of Real Estate in 1977. In 1980, Don Bernard left Bernard & Bernard and opened a private practice.

Heavily involved in his private practice during the 1980s, Don Bernard was also a Delegate for the first joint international bar conference between the United States and the USSR in 1988. Don Bernard entered the world of education in 1991, becoming a Professor of International Law at the University of St. Thomas in 1991. In 1994, Don Bernard discontinued his private practice and his duties for the University of St. Thomas. He served as a Guest Lecturer for the Montana State University College of Business from 1995 to 1996.

Subsequently, Don Bernard consulted for the founder during the formulative years of Glacial Energy, now a national power company retailer, and other international organizations. He also sponsored leadership programs for university students. In his spare time, Donald R. Bernard enjoys fly-fishing, big game hunting, hiking, and scuba diving.
