About Donald S Larson

An entrepreneur and business executive with experience in high tech and software development serving public utility, chemical manufacturing, life science, medical device, military and government sectors. Donald S. Larson currently resides in San Diego, California. He is an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Connect, a business mentoring and regional development organization focused on corporate growth. He served as Vice President and, later, President of the Engineering Society at the University of Saskatchewan, his alma mater, where he majored in Electrical Engineering. Donald S. Larson worked for two decades in middle-management positions at several early-stage information technology firms, including Applicon; Altek Systems; and Synetics. Donald S. Larson expanded his career as a Systems Engineering Manager and Regional Sales Manager at W.R. Grace, in their automated platemaking division for the newspaper industry.

In 1992, Donald S. Larson founded CIMTEK Operations, Inc., a $15 million, 20-employee computer operations and management firm that supported mainframe and document management for the U.S. Army. As CEO of CIMTEK, Donald S. Larson worked to secure the Army contract, developed and executed a strategic direction for the company, and negotiated annual sole-source contracts. In 1996, Donald S. Larson developed a new company, CIMTEK Systems Inc., shifting the company’s focus to computer graphics, collaborative computing software, and document management. Donald S. Larson sold CIMTEK to Synercom Technology. After selling CIMTEK to Synercom, in 1998, Donald S. Larson became Director of Synercom’s Washington, DC Division. In just two years, Donald S. Larson expanded business, approaching $20 million from multiple Government and Fortune 1000 accounts.

While at Synercom , he moved to California, transitioning major Defense Department accounts such as the Naval Air Depot/North Island and the Army JAG Corps to the Synetics system. Donald S. Larson also earned the company new contracts with the Naval Air Systems Command, IBM, and the General Services Administration, and built a knowledge-management business with the Defense Information Systems Agency.

Donald S. Larson left Synercom to become CEO at a second startup, EKM Corporation. A software knowledge solutions provider in the scientific and governmental sectors, EKM eventually grew into a $5 million business with numerous enterprise clients across the globe. He led EKM to become a strategic business partner with IBM and SAIC and received the prestigious Lotus Beacon Award for Best Knowledge Discovery Solution.

Currently, in addition to his work at Connect other philanthropic endeavors, Donald S. Larson serves as Acting President and Consultant for SciRecord Corporation in San Diego, a position he accepted while the company’s investment group searches for a full-time executive.
