About Dr Alice Berkowitz

A psychotherapist and psychologist for nearly 30 years, Dr. Alice Berkowitz commands a strong track record in the mental health field. Upon receipt of her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Hahnemann Medical College, Dr. Alice Berkowitz moved to Los Angeles, California, to begin Ph.D. studies at the University of Southern California (USC). An exemplary doctoral candidate at USC, Dr. Alice Berkowitz proved essential to the implementation of “object relations theory” into the program. Graduating magna cum laude with a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology in 1983, Dr. Alice Berkowitz began a highly diversified career in mental health.

One of the youngest Ph.D. graduates in Counseling Psychology asked to teach at USC, Dr. Alice Berkowitz became an adjunct associate professor in the USC Department of Psychology within months of her dissertation defense. Dr. Alice Berkowitz also served as a full-time staff psychologist for Los Angeles County Mental Health during this time. In addition, Dr. Alice Berkowitz began working as a forensic psychologist, testifying in court on such matters as sexual abuse, incest, and pedophiles. For the next 10 years, Dr. Alice Berkowitz balanced a private practice in psychotherapy with responsibilities as an adjunct associate professor, ultimately leaving her post at USC to devote more of her time to private practice and family. In 1993, Dr. Alice Berkowitz joined the California Board of Psychology as an oral examiner and exam writer. Today, Dr. Alice Berkowitz continues to operate her private practice under the name Alice R. Berkowitz, Ph.D., A Professional Psychology Corporation, and additionally provides supervision to fellow psychologists and psychology students whenever possible.
