Women’s Health Connection
2005
Medical Director and Owner
As a gynecologist, I provide a wide range of health care services to women. Specialty gynecologic services include evaluation and treatment of heavy periods, painful periods, endometriosis, infrequent or absent periods, postmenopausal bleeding, hormone imbalances related to menopause, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and PMS, fibroids, ovarian cysts, contraception, prevention and treatment of gynecologic cancers, treatment of infertility, sexually transmitted diseases, vaginitis, abnormal PAPs , sexual problems and permanent contraception. As a urogynecologist, I evaluate bladder problems, including urinary leaking, urgency, frequency and voiding problems, also pelvic floor problems such as prolapse (cystocele, rectocele, enterocele, uterine prolapse), and pelvic floor spasm conditions, such as chronic pelvic pain, interstitial cystitis, pain with intercourse (dyspareunia), overactive bladder and vaginismus. I also provide and oversee primary care services for women including annual exams, management of hormone imbalances, hypertension (high blood pressure), hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol), nutritional deficiencies, thyroid problems, problems with metabolism and obesity, insulin resistance, and many others. As a advanced pelvic laparoscopic surgeon, I focus on minimally invasive techniques that help women have the quickest recovery possible. Minimally invasive surgeries I perform include laparoscopy, laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy, repair of pelvic prolapse, suburethral slings for incontinence (TVT, and minislings), hysteroscopy, Novasure, cryoablation, HerOption, cystoscopy, Renessa, Interstim sacral neuromodulation, in office "tubals" such as Essure and Adiana, also Macroplastique and posterior tibial nerve stimulation. I also perform aesthetic vaginal surgery, which is most often requested for improvement of sexual sensation and for cosmetic reasons. These minimally invasive techniques can be performed in the office and include designer vaginoplasty, laser vaginal rejuvenation, G-spot injection with dermal fillers, and labiaplasty. I oversee our pelvic floor rehab program, which includes testing for pelvic floor weakness and spasm with EMG and manometry, and treating these conditions with minimally invasive techniques. Although am a surgeon by training, I always like to take a step back and see what has caused the problem for which I am doing surgery in the first place. The way forward in medicine is a holistic approach to these problems which attempts to prevent and treat chronic disease and hormone imbalance through a combination of therapeutic lifestyle changes, nutritional supplementation, obesity management, physical activity and fitness, and stress management. With this in mind, even after the surgery has been done to correct the immediate problem, I like to focus on what led to that problem in the first place, how can we correct it and prevent that metabolic problem from causing other long term health problems.
I founded Women’s Health Connection with a philosophy that health is more than the absence of disease. Achieving and maintaining health and wellness is a two fold process – the first is to analyze symptoms and identify and treat disease, if present, or rule it out. Too often, this is where the process stops in medicine. Once, we’ve determined what a symptom ISN’T, (ie ruled out serious disease), I feel that the next step is to figure out what it IS and how to modify it to help you feel well. How we feel as women, and our sense of wellness, goes far beyond the absence of disease. Women’s Health Connection is a safe place for patients to let us know what is on their minds. We are listening. Open and honest information exchange is what it’s all about. I believe that the provider’s role is to inform and guide, but it is always the patient's choice what to incorporate into their life and their role to make it happen. I respect their decisions and encourage and support their efforts to achieve wellness and balance in their life. Women’s Health Connection follows an integrated approach between traditional medicine with its tests, medications, labs, imaging, procedures and surgeries, as well as functional and lifestyle medicine, often the first line of treatment for many conditions, including food planning, stress management, fitness planning, and great nutrition. The result: A holistic approach tapping into mind, body and spiritual resources. Many women rank going to the gynecologist as one of the more stressful visits that they have – right up there with going to the dentist. In founding Women’s Health Connection, I strived to get past this stereotypical image and create a calm, peaceful and serene environment for patients to visit. The colors, music, style, and demeanor of the Women’s Health Connection have been carefully chosen to help patients feel at ease. They are in a safe place here. During the course of their visits to us, they may see physicians, nurse practitioners, certified physician assistants, nurses, certified medical assistants, dieticians, and specially trained technicians. All work under the supervision of the physicians, and their treatment plan is reviewed regularly by the physician team, regardless of who they interact with in our clinic. Our team of seasoned professionals work well together as a group, and we love what we do. We have a supportive, collaborative environment, and great admiration for the skills and strengths of the others. Our primary goal is to provide comprehensive compassionate care for the patient, and make their visit as pleasant and stress free as possible from the moment you arrive. We understand the unique and sometimes complex challenges of providing health and wellness care for women, and listening and sharing our knowledge is our highest priority.
