Dr. Mark Wichman - Orthopedic Surgeon at Aurora Advanced Orthopaedics

Dr. Mark Wichman is an Orthopedic Surgeon at Aurora Advanced Healthcare, Inc., in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After earning his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Dr. Wichman went on to complete his residency in orthopedic surgery at Northwestern University in Chicago and then a one-year fellowship in sports medicine at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute. Returning to Wisconsin, Dr. Wichman accepted a position as Orthopedic Surgeon with Milwaukee Orthopedic Specialists, S.C., now Aurora Advanced Healthcare.

Since Dr. Wichman’s return to the Milwaukee area, he has become involved with many of the area’s medical organizations and colleges. In conjunction with Aurora, he is a Medical Leader at the group’s Sports Medicine Institute in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. Dr. Mark Wichman maintains active affiliation with four area hospitals, including Aurora Sinai Medical Center and West Allis Memorial Hospital. Dr. Wichman has taught as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin and at Marquette University, and he is a member of the Wisconsin Medical Society.

An expert in the fields of orthopedic surgery and sports medicine, Dr. Wichman actively promotes education on the topics and has addressed the public through various forms of media. He has also instructed colleagues on developments within his specialties, serving as a faculty member and panelist at over 30 national meetings and seminars. Additionally, Dr. Mark Wichman has participated in two clinical studies, researching arthroscopic surgical techniques for repairing knee and shoulder injuries.

Dr. Wichman is an active presence in the Milwaukee community. He is an avid fundraiser for the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, and he volunteers at the Milwaukee Jewish Day School and the Harry & Rose Samson Jewish Community Center. Dr. Mark Wichman resides in Mequon, Wisconsin, with his wife and three sons, where he enjoys playing sports and spending time with his family, as well as serving the community with the Agape Neighborhood Association and the Lisbon Avenue Neighborhood Development organization.

    A professional organization established in 1933, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons strives to provide education on the musculoskeletal system to physicians and other interested parties around the world. The annual meeting is a major component of this effort; held each March, the conference features presentations from scholars on a variety of topics, including reconstruction, sports medicine, and pediatrics. Attendees can also take classes that will assist them in the business aspects of orthopaedics, such as the basics of starting a private practice.

    In addition, the Academy publishes several journals and offers virtual resources as well. Members may also elect to take courses through the organization, which are offered regularly throughout the year.
