Clinical psychologist Dr. Paul Schottland has operated his New Jersey-based private practice since 1983. Active in his local community, Dr. Paul Schottland serves as a guest lecturer to private, public, and special needs schools and religious organizations across New Jersey. Dr. Paul Schottland also acts as a Parenting Expert to parents’ associations at New Jersey schools and has provided services for parents at the Mendham Township School District’s through the Department of Special Services.

A native of New Jersey, Dr. Paul Schottland graduated from Newark Academy before pursuing his undergraduate degree at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During his undergraduate experience, he participated in national freshman honor society Phi Eta Sigma, earned sophomore honors, and made the Dean’s list. Graduating summa cum laude, he subsequently attended the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) at Alliant International University in Los Angeles, California.

After completing his graduate education, Dr. Paul Schottland enrolled in a postdoctoral fellowship program at the Wright Institute, also in Los Angeles, through which he conducted two years of study in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Later joining Harvard Medical School’s McLean Hospital, he performed a one-year fellowship in cognitive analytic psychotherapy for children.

Dr. Paul Schottland’s additional postdoctoral education includes training in cognitive therapy at the Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy and Research, in child optimism at the University of Pennsylvania, and in ongoing weekly postdoctoral work with the founder and director of schema-focused cognitive therapy institute of New Jersey.

Dr. Paul Schottland’s past professional experience includes positions as an intern Psychologist for the Glendale Adventist Medical Center in Glendale, California; as Chief Psychologist for Newark Beth Israel Medical Center; and as an Instructor of Psychology in Harvard Medical School’s Department of Psychiatry. He belongs to the New Jersey Psychological Association, the American Psychological Association, and the International Society of Schema Therapy, through which he obtained his Advanced Certification as a Cognitive Schema Therapist.
