"Dr. Randy Allan - Pathologist and Primary Care Physician"Winnipeg, CanadaAs an undergraduate, Dr. Randy Allan attended the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada, to study science. Less than a year after earning his Bachelor of Science, Dr. Randy Allan enrolled at the University of Manitoba Faculty of Medicine, becoming the inaugural student for its pathology studentship program for his second year of medical school and receiving two academic scholarships. With his medical degree, Dr. Randy Allan accepted a rotating internship with The University of British Columbia. After working for Concordia Hospital and St. Boniface Hospital as an Emergency Room Physician, Dr. Randy Allan returned to The University of British Columbia for his residency in general and anatomical pathology. During his final year as a resident, Dr. Randy Allan obtained an award for best research presentation by a general pathology resident and published two articles, one on HIV and the other about congenital erythroleukemia. Dr. Randy Allan’s next position came from Richmond General Hospital (now Richmond Hospital) where, as a Pathologist, he performed autopsies and handled matters connected to hematology. After two years, Dr. Randy Allan became an anatomical pathologist with Burnaby Hospital. Leaving Canada, Dr. Randy Allan traveled to Qatar to become Acting Director of Cytopathology for Hamad General Hospital. Dr. Randy Allan returned to Canada to serve Trail Regional Hospital (now the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital) as its Laboratory Director and Chief of Staff. During this period, Dr. Randy Allan spent several months in New York City at a fellowship in dermatopathology at New York University Langone Medical Center. Dr. Randy Allan re-enrolled at the University of Manitoba to take classes in Electrical and Computer Engineering, writing a thesis on digital image processing and eventually garnering a Master of Science. For the next several years, Dr. Randy Allan worked for Envoy Medical Dispatch as a House Call Primary Care Doctor and at Trainor Laboratory as a Pathologist simultaneously. Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora then requested Dr. Randy Allan’s services as a Laboratory Physician and Chair of its Laboratory Results Reporting Committee. Afterward, Four Rivers Medical Clinic hired Dr. Randy Allan as a primary care physician who goes on house calls. Currently, Dr. Randy Allan serves Main Street Medical in Winnipeg as a primary care physician and writes his own blog about medical issues. Dr. Randy Allan belongs to the Canadian Medical Association, the Manitoba Medical Association (now Doctors Manitoba), the American Society for Clinical Pathology, and other professional groups.
