An American College of Surgeons fellow and American Medical Association member, Dr. Ronald Gilmer earned a Bachelor of Science in Premedical Studies in 1969 from Middle Tennessee State University. Dr. Gilmer completed medical school at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in 1973 and finished a surgical internship in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1974 at The Queen’s Medical Center. Dr. Ronald Gilmer completed further postgraduate study at Baptist Hospital in Nashville from 1974 to 1978. At Baptist Hospital, Dr. Gilmer served as Chief Resident in general surgery during his final year of training. In 1977, Dr. Ronald Gilmer launched a vascular and general surgery private practice, later refining his plastic surgery skills during a 1983 residency at Saint Louis University. The same year, he began a reconstructive and plastic surgery practice at Mid-State Medical Center in Nashville. After four years of service as a trauma surgeon in the emergency rooms of many local hospitals, Dr. Ronald Gilmer centered his work on cosmetic procedures at Dr. Ronald Gilmer, MD, PC. The first Nashville-area reconstructive surgeon to perform liposuction procedures, Dr. Ronald Gilmer has been performing the surgery since 1983. Additionally, he is the sole doctor in Middle Tennessee providing transumbilical breast augmentation services, helping to avoid scarring by inserting breast implants for patients through the naval.
