In his 16 years with the Coral Gables Police Department in Florida, Lieutenant Edward Claughton has specialized in investigations, records and technology services, and statistical crime analysis. He parlayed this experience into a new venture in 2008, a consulting and training company that aids law enforcement agencies in managing their records divisions more efficiently. Police Records and Information Management Group offers training on crime statistics and UCR, police records management, and police reporting. The company also provides project management services for technology related projects, crime statistics audits, records management assessments, and business development solutions for corporate partners. Edward Claughton’s law enforcement records management model has significantly lowered report error rates and turnaround times. Clients include numerous police departments and sheriff’s offices around the country. He is a selected speaker for the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Law Enforcement Information Management Section. Edward Claughton received a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science at Loyola University New Orleans and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice at Boston University. He holds certifications in Florida as a Public Records Manager, Public Information Officer and is also a Certified Law Enforcement Auditor. Edward Claughton garnered additional professional training in information gathering, contract negotiations, Internet investigations, and instructing through FranklinCovey Government Services and the FBI-LEEDA Command Institute for Law Enforcement Executives. Currently a Police Lieutenant and Uniform Patrol Division Shift Commander, Edward Claughton oversees approximately 13 sergeants and 85 officers. In his previous position as a Police Sergeant in the Police Records and Technology Unit, he significantly reduced the reporting error rate and implemented a regional intelligence-sharing system for his department. He developed a records management model which is now used in police agencies throughout the U.S. In other assignments at the Coral Gables Police Department, Edward Claughton served as a Police Detective in the Economic Crimes Unit, as a Bicycle Patrol Officer, and as a Uniformed Patrol Officer. He has received numerous commendations over the years, including the Bronze Medal of Valor. A dedicated member of his professional community, Edward Claughton supports the Police Benevolent Association and The 200 Club, which supports the families of law enforcement officers and firefighters severely wounded or killed in the line of duty. He also belongs to the International Law Enforcement Auditors Association and Justice Research and Statistics Association. Edward Claughton also works with Granada Day School, where he serves as a board member and is an active member at Granada Presbyterian Church.
