Sanchez

Certified Teacher and Education Reform Advocate

Kansas City, Missouri

Elliot Sanchez is passionately committed to ensuring that every child is able to receive a quality education. He seeks opportunities to analyze and help solve the systemic failures that contribute to the achievement gap in public education across America

As an undergraduate at Loyola University New Orleans, Elliot studied Political Science, Philosophy, and Economics while working for the Jefferson Parish Delegation in the Louisiana Legislature. He was also elected President of Student Government, managing a portfolio of projects with an annual budget of $250,000.

Upon graduating he joined Teach for America and spent his first year teaching at Booker T. Washington Alternative school in New Orleans, LA. Though the students had failed to succeed in traditional school environments and were often several academic years behind, his students made statistically significant 41% gains on their year to year LEAP results. He then moved to Kansas City, MO and currently teaches at KIPP: Endeavor Academy Middle School, a public charter. There, he developed a curriculum and assessment program from the ground up, bringing his 7th grade students to proficiency in 7th, 8th, and 9th grade standards.

Elliot has written on the economic policies that led to levee failures during Hurricane Katrina, and received recognition from President Clinton for founding a community microlending non-profit in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
