Reverend Evan D. Howard shares his Christian faith through inspiring sermons, newspaper and magazine articles, and published books of both fiction and nonfiction. A full-time pastor of the Community Church of Providence, RI, Evan D. Howard has served in ministry positions since the 1970’s. An avid reader, Evan D. Howard also loves to write, an interest he has maintained since childhood.

An ordained pastor in the American Baptist Churches, USA, Evan D. Howard has served with distinction in a variety of ministry positions since 1981. A former pastor of First Baptist Church in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Evan D. Howard led a vibrant student ministry and effective outreach programs at the Boston area church. In 1987 Evan D. Howard began working as the American Baptist Campus Minister at the University of Chicago. Heeding the call to return to ministry as a pastor, Evan D. Howard moved to Providence in September 1988. Since that time, Evan D. Howard has overseen strategic planning for the Community Church of Providence, including the creation of new programs and educational ministries and the application of a variety of outreach initiatives, which have spurred the revitalization of the congregation.

During his time at the Community Church of Providence, Evan D. Howard has continued his theological exploration by writing both nonfiction and fiction books. Evan D. Howard’s nonfiction works include “Suffering Loss, Seeking Healing: Prayers for Pain-filled Times” and “Centered in God: The Way of Jesus, the Way of Life.” Additionally, Evan D. Howard has authored the nonfiction works “From Sacrifice to Celebration: A Lenten Journey” and “Rekindling the Hope of the Manger: An Advent Study.” In addition to penning articles for leading religious publications, including Pulpit Digest, The Reformed Journal, and The Christian Century, Evan D. Howard has written articles for The Providence Journal-Bulletin and The Providence Sunday Journal. After seven years writing a novel that was never published, Evan D. Howard finally saw his first work of fiction into print in 2010.
