A resident of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, attorney Evan Slavitt serves as Vice President for Business and Legal Affairs for AVX Corporation, a NYSE-listed international manufacturing company. As part of the senior management team, Mr. Slavitt takes on a host of duties at the company, including overseeing daily operations, directing strategic planning, and offering legal advice to or acting as the Chief Legal Officer for operations in the United States, China, and various nations in the European Union and Latin America. Evan Slavitt supervises other attorneys and paralegals as well as administrative staff, and also manages responses to product liability, government investigations, and other critical matters. In addition, Mr. Slavitt provides corporate compliance training for other employees.

Before moving in-house, Evan Slavitt gained important experience in the business context as Director for The Colchester Group, LLC, a business consulting firm in Chestnut Hill, and in private practice in Massachusetts. Mr. Slavitt contributed significantly to business operations by applying his expertise to crisis management and internal business dispute resolution, and consulted in areas including complex borrowing, financing, and syndication transactions. Mr. Slavitt worked with companies in need of Chapter 11 reorganizations and provided financial guidance for troubled corporations and banks.

In addition to such business-oriented work, at three law offices, the last of which was his own, Bodoff & Slavitt LLP, he concentrated on complex litigation in the areas of fraud, antitrust, environmental, and corporate accounting law. Mr. Slavitt also conducted internal investigations and provided advice on legal compliance programs. In addition, he defended clients in white-collar crime cases such as allegations of fraud and corporate disclosures. Mr. Slavitt counseled those called before grand juries as well as federal and state appellate courts.

Prior to this, Evan Slavitt served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and Deputy Chief of the Civil Division for the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts. In this capacity, Mr. Slavitt litigated nearly 200 civil cases, including those in areas such as eminent domain, civil fraud, insurance, health regulation, and environmental law. As Deputy Chief, Mr. Slavitt managed other attorneys and supervised all of the affirmative civil litigation for U.S. Attorney’s Office, concentrating on fraud, False Claim Act, and environmental cases. Mr. Slavitt also spent time as a Trial Attorney for the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, a role in which he took depositions, drafted motions, and prepared and examined trial witnesses.
