Frank Coppa began serving the community as a young man at the Bari Italian American Club in 1964, where he would volunteer his time around the holiday season at soup kitchens and distribute toys to children at various local hospitals. While his volunteer reach would eventually extend far beyond the Bari Italian American Club, Frank Coppa remained a member a volunteer at the club for over 30 years. Mr. Coppa would later help build four baseball fields in New Springville, Staten Island. Continuing in his commitment to aiding local youth, he donated a school bus to Tottenville High School in Staten Island after learning the school had cut funding for transportation. Frank Coppa’s charity work extends back to late 1970s when he became involved with United Cerebral Palsy of New York. During the holiday season, Mr. Coppa donated toys to children at the local United Cerebral Palsy Center on Staten Island and would also volunteer with his wife on the phone banks during pledge drives and major telethon events. He became particularly invested with the case of one young girl with cerebral palsy from Staten Island, and helped raised money for several of her operations. Just after the September 11th attacks in New York, Frank Coppa assisted in raising over $25,000 in supplies for the rescue teams at Ground Zero and donated them to the Manalapan Fire Department in New Jersey.
