Chaplain Gordon James Klingenschmitt

Colorado Springs, Colorado

Graduating from the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Gordon James Klingenschmitt earned his Bachelor of Science in Political Science. Continuing his education at Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Klingenschmitt earned his Master of Business Administration and his Master of Divinity, and is now a candidate for his PhD in Renewal Theology. Klingenschmitt spent more than a decade serving as an officer in the Air Force before volunteering for a demotion to become a Chaplain in the United States Navy. For four years, Klingenschmitt ministered to Navy servicemen and servicewomen, and his programs won many awards for community service. In 2007, Chaplain Klingenschmitt lost his Navy job and benefits because he took a stand for the right to engage in public prayer. Klingenschmitt mounted a national political campaign opposing the Navy policy that had led to his honorable but involuntary discharge. Eventually, Congress declared that the policy for which he was punished must be rescinded. Though Klingenschmitt sacrificed his military career as Chaplain, he says the reversal of the policy was a victory for religious liberty. The Chaplain now leads The Pray In Jesus Name Project, and has led petition campaigns and rallies to restore religious liberty for others. He has helped restore the legal right to pray “in Jesus name” in 10 states. He may be contacted for media interviews or speaking engagements through his website: www.PrayInJesusName.org.
