Grace Chung Becker’s legal career reflects her commitment to public service. She served with distinction in all three branches of the federal government. Grace Chung Becker has extensive experience in criminal and civil litigation, public policy, and management. Helping vulnerable victims of discrimination, Grace Chung Becker served her country as the highest ranking official in the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. After being nominated by President Bush to be the Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division in 2007, Grace Chung Becker was responsible for supervising approximately 700 employees in the enforcement of over 30 civil rights statutes. Under the leadership of Grace Chung Becker, the Division filed more civil rights criminal prosecutions and employment discrimination cases than ever before. Grace Chung Becker was promoted after serving as the Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Division. From the prosecution of narcotics offenses to the preparation of briefing materials for the President of the United States on foreign military issues, Grace Chung Becker has taken on responsibilities that promote justice on a national level. She has testified at numerous Congressional hearings as an expert on criminal and civil rights issues and prepared the Attorney General of the United States, as well as senior level military and civilian officials for Congressional hearings. During her tenure with the United States Department of Justice, Grace Chung Becker conducted appellate arguments and wrote legal briefs in complex, multi-defendant criminal cases. Grace Chung Becker has also served as Associate Deputy General Counsel for the United States Department of Defense. In addition, while working as the Special Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of the Army, Grace Chung Becker earned the “Outstanding Civilian Service” medal for her performance in an Army Inspector General’s review of events that occurred during the Korean War. Earlier in her career, Grace Chung Becker served two prestigious federal judicial clerkships. Grace Chung Becker graduated magna cum laude from the Wharton School of Finance with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. Grace Chung Becker simultaneously earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology of Law magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania. Grace Chung Becker went on to attain her law degree magna cum laude from the Georgetown University Law Center, where she was a member of the Order of the Coif, representing her position in the top five percentile of her graduating class, and an Associate Editor on The Georgetown Law Journal.
