Venture Capitalist31, Washington, District of ColumbiaGrant is a Vice President at Core Capital Partners, a $350 million venture capital firm in Washington, DC. He focuses on investments in both early- and growth-stage mobile applications, infrastructure, business services, and consumer internet companies. Grant joined Core Capital in 2007 with nearly six years of strategy consulting and telecommunications industry experience. Prior to Core and graduating from the Wharton School, he completed dual internships at Liberty Associated Partners, a Philadelphia-based venture fund where he worked with the CEO of Jingle Networks’ 1-800-FREE-411, and Microsoft Corporation, where he was a Product Manager in the Mobile & Embedded Devices division and developed competitive strategy for the Windows Mobile smartphone operating system. Previously, Grant was a consultant at Dean & Company, where he focused on transitioning telecom infrastructure providers to new growth sectors such as wireless media and online gaming, as well as cost reduction strategy for wireline carriers. He began his career working with a number of young companies, including Bates White, an economics consulting firm; Nextera Interactive, a web incubator and IT consulting firm; and A-k Presence, a web design and e-commerce services firm he founded. Grant received his B.S.E. in Civil Engineering cum laude from Duke University and an MBA with an individualized major in Private Equity and Venture Capital from The Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania. There, he consulted for the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), was a TA for Sarah Kaplan’s Competitive Strategy class, was a Leadership Fellow and a WGA Executive Director, and was a board member with the Wharton Alumni Association. Outside of work, Grant is an active boardmember and co-founder of the Ocular Melanoma Foundation (hyperlink) and has worked overseas with his family’s global ministry, International Cooperating Ministries, now active in 50+ countries (hyperlink). Grant is an avid squash player and cyclist, music afficionado (and user of Pandora) and attempts to keep up his oil painting skills since he gave up on becoming Howard Roark long ago.
