About Gurmeet Khangura

Mr. Gurmeet Khangura began his career in publications as a journalist for local newspaper, proving his aptitude for research and publication development. Eventually, Gurmeet Khangura became a the Director of Southnews Plc, a holding company that published weekly newspapers in Southeast England. Shortly thereafter, Gurmeet Khangura founded the Ethnic Media Group by bringing four weekly newspapers aimed at Asian, Africa, and Caribbean readers under the leadership of a single publisher. Ethnic Media Group became one of the most successful minority publishers in the United Kingdom. Toward the end of the decade, however, Gurmeet Khangura’s publishing company suffered setback, due to the British recession and the subsequent government budget cuts and declines in advertising revenue. Unable to recover, the Ethnic Media Group went into receivership in 2009, marking the end of landmark newspapers like Caribbean Times and New Nation, the leading publications for individuals of African descent. The only newspaper under Gurmeet Khangura’s company that was bought by another publisher was Eastern Eye, which is most famed for its Asian Rich List. Since 1996, Ethnic Media Group celebrated the success of minority-owned businesses throughout the United Kingdom with an annual award ceremony associated with the list.
