Math Teacher - Silver Lakes Middle School

Horatio Major serves as a Math Teacher within the Broward County Public Schools of North Lauderdale, Florida, a positions he has fulfilled since 2007; in 2011, he also worked as Department Head. As a leader within the school community, Major aims to implement various innovative practices and strategies to improve the performance of both students and teachers. To this end, he goes to great lengths to ensure awareness of the latest developments in learning aids and curriculum, and to provide useful and effective pedagogical workshops for staff members. Beyond the classroom, Horatio Major also coaches basketball and track teams at the school. A year after gaining this position at Silver Lakes Middle School, Horatio Major adopted a corresponding role as a Tutor with Champion Learning Educational Services, LLC. There, he remains committed to serving the individual needs of students and utilizing a variety of accepted methods to gauge and promote their academic progress.

Horatio Major earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1999 from Fort Valley State University in Georgia. More recently, he joined the Florida Department of Education’s program to obtain his Professional Educator’s Certificate in Exceptional Student Education for Grades K through 12. In 2010, Major enrolled in the Master of Education in Educational Leadership program administered by the University of Phoenix. Horatio Major formerly worked as a Quality Control (QC) Chemist for Schering-Plough Corporation, Elan Transdermal Technologies, Inc., and Sentry Supplement Co.
