Biography J. Scott Rutter

From bank teller to head cashier; from administrative assistant to assistant manager; and finally to owner of his own $250,000 a year multi service business; Scott Rutter has accomplished a lot in his thirty years.

While still in high school, Rutter participated in SHAPE, a business education program for qualified students. He maintained a 3.5 GPA while taking college business courses at Hennepin Technical College in Edina, Minnesota, and working in banking and retail sales.

Rutter did well. At the age of 15, he was a new cashier for Target and at 16 he was promoted to head cashier. At Best Buy he started as an administrative senior (an administrative assistant with supervisory responsibilities) and was soon promoted to operations supervisor responsible for six customer service seniors. At Sam’s Club he began as a check-out supervisor (COS) and rose to head COS supervising five others. He was then promoted to a hard lines team leader position. At Walgreen’s, Rutter started as an assistant manager and was promoted to an executive assistant manager.

Along the way, Rutter developed a reputation for increasing sales, working well with others, and having an entrepreneurial attitude. At the age of 22, and with a long list of accomplishments to his credit, Rutter decided to apply what he learned in retail sales to his own business. The result, Masterpiece Cleaning Inc., provides cleaning services to individual and business customers. It is 60% residential based (high-end estate homes), 20% commercial and store fronts, and 20% pre-post construction clean-up for builders like Toll Brothers, Bomar Builders, and Lennar. Today, with annual sales of $250,000, the company has six employees and is still growing.

In just four years, Scott Rutter built a successful company and gained the business owner’s perspective on all aspects of management; including human resources, regulatory compliance, customer satisfaction, marketing/sales, budget, scheduling, and inventory control.
